Dr Overton

Doctor Overton qualified as a doctor from Manchester University in 1981. His first post was at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, and from there he went on to complete his GP training at Gorton Medical Centre in Manchester. After several more years working in the UK, Dr. Overton moved to Jersey, to set up a practice at 41 David Place in St Helier.

Dr. Sykes

Work history (chronological)

Dr. Sykes qualified as a doctor from Nottingham University in 2006 and moved to Gloucester to take up a post as a junior doctor in Gloucester Royal Hospital. From there she gained a wide range of experience at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital. Dr. Sykes completed her GP training in 2011 and spent several years working at NHS practices in Leicestershire. Dr. Sykes returned to her home-island of Jersey in 2013 where she joined a local GP practice.

Dr. Sykes has a diploma with the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare and a diploma with the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. 

Family

Dr. Sykes recently got married. Her husband works locally as a mechanical engineer. She enjoys spending time with family and friends who live locally, in the UK and Southern Ireland.

Hobbies & Interests

Dr. Sykes is a keen sportswoman. She has played badminton competitively since childhood and has represented Jersey. She also enjoys walking and cycling across the many beautiful landscapes Jersey has to offer. In her spare time Dr. Sykes can be found learning new creative skills in evening classes, including pottery, woodwork and rock and roll dancing! Dr. Sykes also has a love of the natural world and conservation. She has previously volunteered with the RSPCA and would like to get more involved in Jersey.

Dr. Ellis initially qualified as a pharmacist in 1976 at the University of Wales Institute of Technology in Cardiff and spent several years as pharmacist across the south of England (with a brief spell in Jersey). In 1979 Dr. Ellis began his medical training at St Thomas’ Hospital London, during which time he also completed four years as a locum Chief Pharmacist in the UAE. He qualified as a doctor in 1984 and spent several years working as a Senior House Officer in hospitals around Bristol, where he gained experience across a wide range of specialisms. Dr. Ellis began his GP training in Keynsham in 1987. After completing his training, Dr. Ellis came to Jersey in 1988 and joined the GP practice at 41 David Place.

Hobbies & Interests

In his spare time Dr. Ellis is a keen cyclist and also enjoys going boating. Like all Welshmen he can often be found watching rugby and cheering on the Welsh Team. If he’s not playing or watching sport, Dr. Ellis can be found whipping up something special in the kitchen as he also enjoys a spot of cooking.

Dr. Clynes qualified as a doctor in 2003.  Following her qualification she was based in hospitals acrossNottingham and Derby and gained experience acrossMedicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Obstetrics, Paediatrics and Psychiatry. 

Dr. Clynes became a fully qualified GP in 2008 and worked for several years in General Practice for the NHS.  More recently Dr. Clynes worked as a locum GP for local GP practices in Jersey.

Hobbies & Interests

In her free time, Dr. Clynes spends her time appreciating the beautiful natural environment of Jersey which includes spending time on the beach with her family, outdoor barbeques and taking long walks. Dr. Clynes also has a passion for food -  growing it, cooking it, sharing it and eating it! She also loves to travel and to exploredifferent cultures, her favourite destinations include Central and South America, Africa and South East Asia.

Dr. Loane qualified as a GP in 1995 and has 20 years experience in General Medicine.  Before moving to Jersey in 2002, Dr. Loane was the GP Principal in a practice in Ballynahinch, Northern Ireland.   Following more than 15 years of practice in Northern Ireland, Dr. Loane and his family moved to Jersey where he joined a local GP practice in 2002.

Other achievements:

Dr. Loane acts as an Occupational Health advisor for several local companies and holds a Diploma in Occupational Medicine. Currently Dr. Loane is the only GP in Jersey to hold this qualification.

Dr. Naidoo

Dr Naidoo qualified as a doctor from St George’s University in 2006, having undertaken training in the Caribbean and England. She then moved to Yorkshire for her junior doctor training. Dr Naidoo completed her GP training across a variety of specialties in South Somerset. Thereafter, she worked at GP surgeries in South Somerset and Cambridgeshire. She moved to Jersey with her family in February 2016.

Dr Naidoo is married and has a young daughter. Between Dr Naidoo and her husband, their siblings are spread over 5 continents; this makes time with family extra special. 

Hobbies & Interests

Although most of her spare time is devoted to her boisterous and inquisitive little daughter, Dr Naidoo is very much a homebody and enjoys baking as her main avenue of de-stressing. She can often be found on the beach with her family, on days out exploring and discovering Jersey or catching up on new film releases with her husband. Originally from South Africa, Dr Naidoo travels to South Africa on a regular basis, but also enjoys travelling to new destinations to learn about other cultures. When she does find some quiet time to herself, Dr Naidoo enjoys tucking into a good book.

A bit about me

Dr Buture graduated as a doctor in Johannesburg, South Africa, in December 1998. The next year she relocated to the UK, where she completed her post-graduate training in General Practice in the Oxford Deanery. On completion of her Joint Committee Training for General Practitioners, she relocated to Jersey in 2004.

She worked as a self-employed GP in private practice for 11 years before deciding to pursue a further academic qualification in her special field of interest, and commenced her MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine in 2016 through the University of South Wales in Cardiff.

Dr Buture was a Gamesmaker at the London 2012 Olympics and was a member of the Medical Team at the Island Games in Jersey in 2015 and the European Touch Rugby Championships in 2016.

When she is not transporting her 2 teenagers around the island, you may find her in the cinema with her husband, enjoying the latest film on the big screen. Otherwise she regularly walks her little Pomeranian dog in the park or along the seafront.

 

 Dr Lauren Wilson-Kelly

Dr Wilson-Kelly qualified as a doctor from Leicester University in 2012 and moved to Jersey to take up a post as a junior doctor.

She enjoyed two years spent working across a number of specialities within Jersey General Hospital.

To progress her interest in working within geographically isolated communities she moved to Oban, Scotland to commence a Remote and Rural training programme in General Practice.

After a year spent in the Highlands of Scotland, she relocated to Winchester to complete her GP training in 2018.

Dr Wilson-Kelly has been very happy to take the opportunity to return to Jersey to commence her career in General Practice.

A bit about me

Having recently returned to Jersey after a time working in the mainland, Lauren is settling back into island life. She is a keen sportswoman. She has played badminton and tennis competitively and has recently represented Jersey in the volleyball Inter-insulars Vs Guernsey. She can often be found exploring the green lanes of Jersey on her road bike.

She has a love of languages and likes to practice her Spanish and French whenever opportunities present. She enjoys music, playing the guitar, flute and tin whistle as well as singing – but not all at the same time!

 

 Dr Andrew Dickinson

 Work history

Dr Dickinson graduated with a first class honours degree in Physiology and Sports Science in 2001 from The University of Glasgow before studying medicine at The University of Manchester, in which he graduated with honours.

Dr Dickinson was commissioned into the British Army during his clinical years of medical school.

His postgraduate training was predominantly within the NHS plus sabbaticals with the British Army.

Upon membership of The Royal College of General Practitioners in 2012 he was fully immersed into the British Army and saw service in Germany, Canada and Kenya, and active service in Afghanistan where he led one of the busiest forward Medical Treatment Facilities of the Afghanistan campaign.

After leaving the British Army in 2015, Dr Dickinson studied German and passed exams enabling him to work within a German practice and as an academic GP for the University of Tübingen, which he continues as a visiting lecturer.

Until recently he was also working as an NHS GP in the UK.

A bit about me

Dr Dickinson is married and has a dog. He enjoys sport and, having become too old and delicate for rugby, he still turns his arm over at village-level cricket. He also enjoys triathlons to keep fit and taking his dog for walks.  In the winter he enjoys skiing and ski-touring. 

 

 Dr Frederik Rud

Dr Rud completed his GP training in Hampshire in 2012 and subsequently moved to Jersey to practice as a GP.

His career has included working in several practices in the island, working in forensic medicine for the States of Jersey Police as well as working in emergency medicine at the general hospital.

A bit about me

Dr Rud is married and has twin girls. His wife is Jersey born and works for the States of Jersey. Dr Rud also enjoys a game of Basketball or Golf or taking a long walk with the dog.
